So You’re Planning to Host a Funktion Event: GREAT!

Hosting a Funktion event isn’t just fun — it's unforgettable! Funktion isn’t only about entertaining your guests; it’s about bringing everyone together in a way that transforms your event from ordinary to extraordinary. Let’s face it: attending events without Funktion is the way of the past. We’re all about changing things up and creating shared experiences. Funktion gives everyone a way to collaborate, participate, and connect, leading to more laughter, more engagement, and more memories that last long after the event ends.

But here’s the thing, Funktion’s experience isn’t common knowledge (yet!). Most guests won’t know what to expect, and that’s okay. Your job as the host is to help them understand what Funktion is and how to join in. Without that little bit of guidance, they might show up and slip into their usual “just attending” mode instead of being part of the fun.

And if some guests just aren’t into it? That’s totally fine. Funktion isn’t mandatory - we see it as an opportunity. The key is to position it the right way so those who do want to participate know how.

Before the Event: Build the Excitement

Start planting the seeds early. Educating and exciting your guests ahead of time makes a huge difference! If your event is already accessible through Funktion before party day (possible by "Publishing" your event), let guests join early and take part in some pre-event fun. For example, before the event, Guests can…

• Submit an RSVP response,

• Upload “getting ready” photos,

• Answer polls or questionnaires, and

• Submit song requests so your DJ knows what the crowd wants

These early contributions help everyone feel a part of the event before it even begins.

Setting Up Your Space: Make Funktion Visible

Visual cues alone aren’t always enough to get guests to join your Funktion event — we've all been conditioned to tune out flyers with QR codes because they’re everywhere. However, if guests know ahead of time that Funktion will be part of the experience, they’ll actually look for your QR code when they arrive. That’s why having signage available is still important — it gives those who are ready and excited to participate an easy way to jump right in.

Print out signage with your event’s Funktion QR code and place it where guests will naturally gather — at the entrance, tables, or the bar. On the flyer you can have a great "call to action", something like:

• “Join the Fun — Scan Here!”

• “Vote for the Next Song!”

• “See Vendor Details & Seating Info — Scan the QR!”

If you’re using modules like Learn More About to feature your vendors or share transportation and venue info, let guests know that all those answers are in the Funktion app. It’s a great reason for them to scan the code.

When Wi-Fi is King

Sometimes the cell reception at your venue’s reception isn’t great. If there's a Wi-Fi network that your guests can connect to, you can consider generating a Wi-Fi QR code that connects guests to your network automatically so they can access Funktion seamlessly. Be sure to update your signage to have them do Step 1 of signing onto the Wi-Fi, and then Step 2 the Funktion QR Code so that they can get started!

During the Event: Keep the Energy Flowing

If you have greeters or check-in staff, get them involved! Have them highlight Funktion’s benefits — from seeing seating assignments to contributing to a crowdfunding campaign, and make scanning that QR code part of the check-in flow.

If you’ve got an MC or host, they’re your best ally for reminding everyone to join in. They can drop quick mentions like:

• “Don’t forget to sign the digital guest book!”

• “Jump into the trivia game! Test your knowledge about … !”

Small nudges like these keep the engagement going without interrupting the flow. And remember: guests can share the event too! Everyone can access the share icon in Funktion to invite others to join — because the more, the merrier.
